Yeah, you get the impression that he was told by his bosses that "This is our sponsor, you have to promote this stuff, or else." Making fun of the sponsor's product may be common today, but in the Fifties, it was unheard of. He is right, though. There's no chicken in Lipton's soup.

But, these are ingredients...

I dunno, you know, I thought Mr. Godfrey was QUITE believable and happy eating the soup. I am quite surprised that people feel the opposite way! (well, his "there's chicken in it... somewhere) remark was a bit off the cuff)
